CUMNOR CHESS CLUB’S

PLAYERS CUP 2008

In-House Tournament

Rules:

1.      All players will play each other twice during the course of the year, both playing White and Black.

2.      All games will be timed at 45 mins on each clock in the Senior's tournament and 30 mins in the junior's tournament.

3.      The games may be played on the night or pre-arranged for a future club night.

4.      Pre-arranged games that do not take place for whatever reason will be void, and a new date should be conveniently arranged.

5.      However, if a pre-arranged game is cancelled three times by the same player then his/her opponent may claim a win. All pre-arranged games must be notified to me prior to the match date, so I can record it in case of a cancellation. If I am not informed of a pre-arranged game then I cannot record a cancellation.

6.      The games must be notated, in case of disputes. If a player that disputes the position does not have evidence of the moves then he/she must rely upon their opponent’s notation. Therefore make sure you get it right, as if there cannot be any reconciliation due too both players notation being incorrect, then the game will be void. As club captain I will have the final decision with any dispute.

7.      We will play touch and play.

8.      Permanent tophies will be awarded to the winner, runner up and third place, in both the Senior and Junior tournaments. Names, along with the year of the tournament will be enscribed. The winners will also keep the main club trophies for one year

9.      The winning players in each tournament may keep the main trophies until the end of the following year’s tournament. However they will be required to bring the trophies to the each club night from November in order to motivate an end game finale in both tournaments.

10. The main trophies will belong to Cumnor Chess Club at all times.

11.  If a player leaves the club whilst in possession of the main trophy, then he/she must return it to the club.

12.  All players will have the responsibility to complete all of their games by the end of each year, which is around mid December. Any un-played games will not count towards their final score.

13. All new players joining the club throughout the year may join the tournaments, but they will only be able to accrue points from the games that they manage to play during the tournament year.

14. By the end of the tournament a seeded player must have a ratio showing that he has played as many seeded matches as unseeded matches. Of course a seeded player can have a final ratio showing more seeded matches played than unseeded, this will not affect his final score. However, if the reverse occurs, whereby a seeded player's final ratio shows that he has played more unseeded games than seeded, then his score will be void.

There is only one exception to this. Only if a seeded player has played all 12 seeded matches will he then be allowed to capitalise on the two extra unseeded matches available to him. Currently there are 7 seeds and 7 non-seeds. Therefore the maximum seeded games a seed can play are 12 and the maximum unseeded games are 14. The ratio 12/14, shows a seed has played 2 more unseeded games than seeded. However, as the maximum quota of seeded games has been completed, the seed is allowed to play one or both additional unseeded games available to him.
